Matthew D. Griffin was a vibrant kid who along with many other interests had a passion for hockey. He loved watching and going to the Garden to see the Boston Bruins play. Matt played youth hockey for the Arlington Hockey Club since he was 5 years old. He had many highlights playing for the Arlington travel teams which culminated with his Midget team winning the State Championship. His career continued in High School where he played varsity for three years. Matt captained the 2007 Arlington High School hockey team, leading them into the State Tournament his senior year. He was a true leader on and off the ice. Matthews love for the game was equally matched by his love for his teammates and friends. He loved being with his crew.

Matt attended Curry College and graduated with a nursing degree. While there at Curry, Matt's personality shined. He met and created many friendships.
While studying for the nursing boards, Matt was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Matt's will to become a nurse never altered, he continued to study while receiving numerous and aggressive treatments to battle the cancer. Matthew Daniel Griffin battled endlessly and with courage throughout. He never quit, as quitting was not in his makeup.

We will forever miss Matt and all his great qualities that made him a terrific, son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew and friend, but we will never forget him. We will forever remember Matt for his love of life, his wittiness, his craziness, his sincerity and his practical jokes.

Matt 's memory will live on in all of his family and friends. The GriffStrong16 Scholarship Fund will help Matt live on within the community that he so dearly embraced.
