Congratulations to the two Arlington students on becoming the 2017 GriffStrong16 Scholarship recipients. The scholarships were presented at the Arlington High School Annual Awards Night on June 1, 2017.

This years recipients were chosen from a group of students who submitted written essays on " Why I want to be a Nurse".

The GriffStrong16 Scholarship is in memory of Matthew D Griffin, who passed away after a two year battle with cancer on December 26, 2014 at the age of 25.  

Matt, born April 9, 1989, was a life long Arlington resident. The GriffStrong16 Scholarship is given annually to two High School Seniors from Arlington, MA pursuing a nursing degree.

Matt was a well rounded kid who loved music and was active in Arlington sports. He played youth hockey and baseball.Matt was a graduate of the AHS class of 2007 where he played Varsity Hockey. He was honored to be named Captain of the Hockey team his Senoir year and helped lead the team to the State Tournament.

Matthew attended Curry College where he graduated with a nursing degree. While working at as a nurse and studying for the nursing boards, Matt was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Both recipients are from Arlington High School, and each displayed heart felt reasons for wanting to go into the medical field.
